Support for Traumatic Birth Experiences

A traumatic event is one during which you feel out of control and deeply afraid, including for your own or someone else’s life. For a lot of people, this is exactly what having a baby (or babies) feels like: out of control, quite frightening, full of concern for your own or your baby’s life. Even when the “outcome” is good and birther and baby are healthy, the birthing experience can be traumatic and leave you wondering, “Was my birth normal?”

If you’re feeling like you wish you could talk to someone to make sense of your birth, I am here for that. If thinking about your birthing experience is difficult, if you try to avoid thinking about it, feel shaky, sweaty, weepy, or numb thinking about it, or if you’re experiencing things like intrusive memories or nightmares, you may be experiencing post-traumatic stress, which in turn may be negatively affecting your mood, your relationships, and your ability to rest and take care of yourself/your baby.

I can help you recover from your birth trauma.

I can help you recover from your birthing experience by supporting your body and mind to feel safe and know that the threat is over. From there, we can begin to slowly access and build tolerance for your difficult memories, so that you can integrate them into your story with less distress and move forward with your life with more ease and connection with yourself and your family.

If you’re ready for a free consultation to see if we are a good fit, send me an email. I’ll ask you about your main challenges and specific hopes for therapy, and explain a little bit more about how I work. Then we can figure out if online or in-person appointments will be best for you, and how often (e.g. weekly or bi-weekly).

Thank you for reaching out! I will be in touch soon to set up an appointment to talk more.
